SLOW DOWN GROUP, NO FRILLS, EVERY DAY AT NOON Monday through Friday - Wheelchair Access
Not a glum bunch, great for newbies and long-timers alike, we study the BIG BOOK for 55 minutes each day. No psychotherapy. No cross-talk. No counseling. We share insights, awakenings and joyous laughter from our AA experience, studying one paragraph at a time, which encourages happy and open-hearted sharing.
A GREAT MEETING FOR NEWBIES
WELCOME HOME, WE'RE GLAD YOU ARE HERE
It all starts here, with the first paragraph of the FOREWORD TO THE FIRST EDITION:
"We, of Alcoholics Anonymous, are more than one hundred men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. To show other alcoholics precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of this book. For them, we hope these pages will prove so convincing that no further authentication will be necessary. We think this account of our experiences will help everyone to better understand the alcoholic. Many do not comprehend that the alcoholic is a very sick person. And besides, we are sure that our way of living has its advantages for all.
(Next, a short reading from the first two paragraphs, Chapter 7, Working With Others, page 89
Practical experience shows that nothing will so much insure immunity from drinking as intensive work with other alcoholics. It works when other activities fail. This is a twelfth suggestion: Carry this message to other alcoholics! You can help when no one else can. You can secure their confidence when others fail. Remember they are very ill.
Life will take on new meaning. To watch people recover, to see them help others, to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host of friends---this is an experience you must not miss. We know you will not want to miss it. Frequent contact with newcomers and with each other is the bring spot of our lives.
The PREAMBLE
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who
share their experience, strength and hope with each other that
they may solve their common problem and help others to recover
from alcoholism.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.
There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are selfsupporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with
any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does
not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor
opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and
help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
